Say their name, say their name: non-binary, trans, and queer communities in translation

March 7 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Say their name, say their name: non-binary, trans, and queer communities in translation

As non-binary, trans, and queer people become more visible both in the media and in daily life, we become more likely of having to translate or interpret for members these communities—or even of meeting one in our personal lives.

The speaker will introduce terminology, review the necessity for proper translation and interpretation beyond “the norm,” and present different approaches to documentation in different languages.

During the webinar, you will earn how to approach non-binary, trans, and queer language in translation and gain a basic understanding of non-binary, trans, and queer identities.

Approved for 1 CE point by ATA, 1.5 non-ethics credit hours by JBCC (TX), and 0.15 CEU by IMIA/NBCMI. Pending CEU by CCHi.

About the speaker:

Ártemis López is an ATA-certified Spanish into English and English into Spanish translator and CCHI-certified Spanish interpreter. They hold an M.A. in medical translation from the Universitat Jaume I in Spain and are currently a PhD student in Linguistics at the Universidade de Vigo, also in Spain, where they research non-binary Spanish. As a non-binary person themself, Ártemis has been translating and interpreting for the community for almost a decade.
